Kenya ignores pressure from the US government and continues to suspend Worldcoin’s local operations

Kenya’s Minister of Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki said the country has rejected the U.S. government’s request to reverse the suspension of operations of crypto project Worldcoin. Kindiki told parliament that the government will not lift the suspension imposed on Worldcoin activity in August 2023 and that the suspension will remain in effect until the security and integrity of financial transactions are guaranteed. Kindiki revealed that Kenya is facing pressure from the U.S. government to lift the suspension of Worldcoin activities, while speaking before the country’s National Assembly Public Petitions Committee. The minister stressed that the Kenyan government was particularly concerned about Worldcoin’s collection of important identity information, such as iris scans, in exchange for digital identification.
