Crypto traders who pre-ordered Solana's Chapter 2 Mobile Web3 phone received an unexpected boon as the total value of the airdrop they received briefly exceeded the phone's actual cost.
Surpassing Pre-Order Cost
According to twoloot.com, the digital assets distributed to buyers reached a value of $480 on Thursday, briefly surpassing the phone's price of $450. Those who received the airdrop allocations and sold their holdings during the peak made a profit of $30, despite not yet receiving the physical device.
Introduction of Chapter 2 Phone
Released in January this year, the Chapter 2 phone followed the success of Solana's previous mobile device, Saga, which sold out quickly in the United States and Europe. Unlike Saga, Chapter 2 sold out within 24 hours of its launch.
Airdrops Accompanying Phone
During pre-orders, users were required to link a Solana address to qualify for potential airdrops. In April, airdrops began rolling in, with Solana meme coin projects like Cats in a Dogs World (MEW) and Maneki (MANEKI) blessing buyers with tokens. MEW distributed 37,600 tokens, while MANEKI shared approximately 5,200 tokens.
Market Volatility and Price Fluctuations
The value of these tokens peaked on April 24 and 25, with each buyer's MEW tokens valued at $334 and $129, respectively, totaling $463. However, as of writing on Friday, the prices of these meme coins have dropped significantly due to market volatility. MEW now stands at $220, while MANEKI dropped to $124.
