UAE plans to issue CBDC to facilitate digital payments

The UAE central bank plans to issue a central bank digital currency (CBDC) for domestic and cross-border payments as one of nine initiatives in the central bank’s infrastructure transformation plan. The announcement issued by the central bank shows that digital payment will promote inclusive finance, promote payment innovation, security and efficiency, and realize a cashless society.
