Metaverse platform Roblox makes hundreds of millions of dollars each quarter by selling its own digital currency, which players can use to buy assets that run on its closed platform. But company founder and CEO David Baszucki still envisions eventually opening up the Roblox ecosystem to allow the use of NFTs on his platform and others.
When asked about opening up interoperability on the Roblox platform, Baszucki told CNBC: "I want to emphasize that in terms of objects and NFTs moving from one platform to another, this is something that is envisioned."
It's unclear whether Baszucki was suggesting that he and his colleagues were sharing a "dream" of interoperability, but he did offer a scenario he had considered. "Like, we believe that one day... One interesting use case I use is that one day Elton John (British singer) might come on Roblox and make 8 or 10 really cool capes and sell them As charity. We can imagine that one day these games will leave the platform in the form of NFTs, possibly be sold, and then return to the platform.” (The Block)
