In the final judgment regarding the BAYC counterfeit RR/BAYC infringement lawsuit, U.S. District Judge John F. Walter ordered Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahen to pay Yuga Labs nearly $9 million in forfeited profits, fines, attorneys' fees and other costs.
As part of the verdict, Ripps and Cahen must also abandon their collection of NFTs within the next two weeks and transfer any infringing intellectual property, including domain names and smart contracts, to Yuga Labs. (The Block)
According to previous news, in June 2022, Yuga Labs sued the NFT series RR/BAYC for infringement, accusing them of using the original BAYC image to mass-produce and sell copycat versions of the NFT series RR/BAYC, thereby causing the devaluation of BAYC NFT. Ripps had argued at one point that the lawsuit was an attack on his free speech and said he would settle the case for no less than $100 billion.
In April 2023, Yuga Labs won summary judgment in an intellectual property lawsuit against Ryder Ripps and its BAYC replica disc project RR/BAYC.
