Hong Kong police said recently that they have seen a surge in the number of counterfeit banknotes used in cryptocurrency scams. From January to April, authorities seized a total of 3,396 counterfeit banknotes worth about $320,000.
Three major cryptocurrency-related cases confiscated a total of 1,693 "training notes" and 347 low-quality counterfeit notes. These training notes are mainly used to train bank employees. They are similar to the 1,000 Hong Kong dollar banknotes, but lack anti-counterfeiting features and are marked with the Chinese words "training notes".
Scammers will set up fake stores or arrange face-to-face transactions, provide cryptocurrency-to-cash services, and use these counterfeit notes to commit fraud. (Bitcoin.com)
