The U.S. Commerce Department said on Monday it is proposing detailed reporting requirements for advanced artificial intelligence developers and cloud computing providers to ensure that the technology is secure and can withstand cyberattacks. The proposal, put forward by the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security, would require that the development of "cutting-edge" artificial intelligence models and computing clusters must be reported to the U.S. federal government. The proposal would also require reporting on cybersecurity measures and the results of so-called "red-teaming" work, such as testing dangerous capabilities, including the ability to assist in cyberattacks, or lowering the entry barriers for non-professionals to develop chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons.
