According to Odaily, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and former Apple design chief Jony Ive are collaborating on a new AI hardware project aimed at personal use. This initiative, which was first reported in April, is currently seeking external investment. Ive confirmed the collaboration on September 21. The project is expected to raise $1 billion by the end of this year and is funded by Emerson Collective, a company founded by Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs.
The startup team for this new device is small, consisting of only 10 employees. However, it includes two key figures who worked with Ive on the development of the iPhone, Tang Tan and Evans Hankey. While there are market rumors suggesting that the new product will draw inspiration from touchscreen technology and the first-generation iPhone, these details have not been officially confirmed.
