NYDFS is hiring blockchain analysts to focus on solving financial crimes in the crypto industry

New York’s financial regulator, NYDFS, is hiring a Senior Blockchain Analytics Analyst to address financial crimes, including money laundering, in the crypto industry. The position is based in New York or Albany and has a starting salary of $84,156 and can go up to $106,454. Candidates should have at least one year of experience in the crypto industry, using blockchain analytics and open source intelligence tools. They should also have a deep understanding of the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules, and related legal frameworks. Applicants will use blockchain analytics and on-chain attribution associated with DFS-regulated virtual currency licensees to assess illicit activity risks and will also monitor dashboards to detect violations that indicate money laundering or sanctions violations and require further investigation and reporting. In January 2015, NYDFS created the Virtual Currency Unit to enforce the BitLicense framework for businesses that handle virtual currencies. The unit is responsible for investigating violations such as fraud, unauthorized operations, cybersecurity, and anti-money laundering violations. Earlier this year, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli highlighted potential regulatory gaps in NYDFS’s management of virtual currency licenses.
