Operation Chokepoint 2.0 has expanded its reach beyond the crypto industry to tech giants like Visa and Mastercard. In a post on X, former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan shared a screenshot of a letter from U.S. lawmakers to Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe, urging them to withdraw from the Meta-backed Libra project.
As previously reported, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is suspected of being involved in killing the Libra project, as revealed by David Marcus, Meta's former head of crypto.
Balaji shared an excerpt from a letter sent by Senators Brian Schatz and Sherrod Brown to several fintech giants, threatening to "review" Visa and all payment service providers associated with the project. He said that a "review" of unrelated activities sends a signal to regulators to "fabricate violations and impose fines until the target surrenders."
