Jorge Tenreiro, acting head of the U.S. SEC's crypto and cybersecurity oversight unit, has expanded his responsibilities as chief litigation counsel for the agency.
However, based on Tenreiro's work experience at the SEC, he will continue to strictly enforce regulations. Even if the political environment changes, investor protection and market integrity will remain a priority.
Under his leadership, the SEC has filed several high-profile cases against crypto companies. For example, Tenreiro played a key role in the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple Labs and its executives Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen. As lead counsel, he handled allegations that XRP is an unregistered security.
Tenreiro's new position shows that although he encourages cryptocurrency innovation, he will continue to strictly enforce securities laws, and the focus may still be on ICOs, token issuance, and combating market manipulation in the cryptocurrency field. (Cryptonews)
