OpenAI plans to restructure its company and adopt a public-benefit corporate model

The statement said that OpenAI plans to transform its existing for-profit business into a Delaware public benefit corporation (PBC), which requires the company to balance the interests of shareholders, stakeholders and the public in the decision-making process. OpenAI said that the nonprofit department will continue to exist and become "one of the most resource-rich nonprofit organizations in history." As part of the new structure, the nonprofit department will hold shares in the reorganized public benefit enterprise.
