The U.S. Department of Justice has been granted permission to liquidate 69,370 BTC (worth about $6.5 billion) seized in the Silk Road case. Trump has pledged not to sell the 187,236 BTC still held by the U.S. government, according to Glassnode. Most of the tokens held by the U.S. government come from the seizure of Bitfinex and Silk Road. Coindesk analyst James Van Straten said that market concerns about a sell-off may be exaggerated, because if the 69,370 liquidated bitcoins are actually sold, they will likely be sold in an orderly manner to obtain the best price. At the same time, the market has long known that this situation is likely to happen, so this possibility may have been priced in by market expectations.
