Jack Dorsey's Bitcoin Subsidiary TBD Seeks Trademark Protection for 'Web5' to Stop Misuse

TBD, the Bitcoin-focused subsidiary of former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, is seeking to trademark the Web5 name, TBD tweeted, "We have recently noticed that the term Web5 is being applied to products and services that are diametrically opposed to the purpose of Web5 we proposed. Therefore, it was decided to seek protection for Web5, which originally meant a truly open, decentralized new Internet layer. Ultimately, we hope to create a coalition of companies, individuals and other stakeholders to maintain these standards so that Make Web5 truly a public good.”
