BeInCrypto reached out to some self-proclaimed ‘crypto couples‘ to get the low-down on some of the hottest crypto-centric gifts to get your loved one this Valentine’s Day.
Crypto and Valentine’s Day may not seem related at first glance, but there are many ways in which the two can intersect. Showering your lover in gifts is a common theme on Feb. 14.
Many businesses, especially online, now accept cryptocurrencies as payment. So the most obvious and simple idea is to send some crypto to your significant other so they can go on a digital shopping trip.
Some couples might also consider investing in cryptocurrency together as a Valentine’s Day gift. This could be a way to show love and commitment by building a shared financial future. Aside from these examples, there are many other creative ways to make for a memorable day.
Some Hot Crypto Gifts to Consider
Physical hardware wallets are a great way to store cryptocurrencies securely and are considered an excellent gift for any crypto enthusiast. Cold wallets have become a must-have for any crypto investor, especially since witnessing multiple centralized exchange collapses in 2022.
The fall of crypto exchange giants like FTX caused many to distrust the security and safekeeping of their cryptocurrencies with exchanges—and rightfully so. With FTX’s dramatic collapse, the entire ecosystem rediscovered the truth of the adage “not your keys, not your crypto.”
If your lover is a bookworm, perhaps you might consider a book on cryptocurrency or blockchain. Some of the most popular titles include ‘The Basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains’ by Antony Lewis, ‘The Internet of Money’ by Andreas M. Antonopoulos, and of course, ‘The Bitcoin Standard’ by Saifedean Ammous.
You can also find crypto-related merchandise in online shops like Etsy that sell gifts like t-shirts, coffee mugs, and keychains.
Crypto-related art can be another exciting present to consider giving your sweetheart. Many talented artists are creating pieces featuring cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and other crypto-related themes in physical and NFT form!
These are just a few ideas, but ultimately the best gift will depend on your partner’s interests and preferences.
Ilia Obraztcov, CEO of Definder found that ‘Instead of spending money on disposable presents, we see a huge demand for crypto as a new hot gift — which shows how financially aware these new consumers are. I wish I had known this earlier myself!’
“My wife could have bought herself a house this year if I had given her 10 Bitcoins instead of a huge bouquet for our first Valentine’s Day together.”
Dating in the Digital Age
Even major dating applications like Tinder and Bumble are starting to integrate metaverse features into their platforms. This could drastically change how people find love in the digital age. From the use of avatars and digital coins to first dates in virtual piano bars, these apps are reshaping the dating landscape.
A survey shared with BeInCrypto reiterated a similar narrative. Results showed that 33% of Americans said they would be more likely to date someone who mentioned crypto in their online dating profile. More than 40% of men and 25% of women indicated that interest in a potential date is stronger when crypto is mentioned.
Crypto Gifts Might Not Be the Best Idea for Everyone
It’s good to remember that not everyone is rooting for crypto nowadays.
One of the interviewees told BeInCrypto, “Valentine’s Day is in a few days, and in my humble opinion gifting your partner with crypto is one of the worst presents you could think of. I know it might sound original and could look cool in front of your crypto bros, but it’s one of the least romantic things ever.”
“Imagine giving her/him an envelope with cash. Yes, it is convenient because it can be used in many ways, but it doesn’t involve feelings or creativity, even if it has hearts printed. The same is with crypto. Gifting them with crypto will not help mass adoption either. It can only make you look clumsy and awkward. NFT present might be even worse, especially if your partner is [unfamiliar with] crypto. The first question is, isn’t this simply a picture that can be downloaded from the internet for free?”
They concluded by suggesting, “Buy them chocolate, flowers, take them to fancy dinner or DIY gift. Invest some creativity and feelings, and show them that you put in effort and care.”
Overall, cryptocurrencies do open different innovative paths to please your loved ones. But, given the nascent feature of the industry, there are significant pitfalls, including regulatory uncertainty.
