Twitch co-founder Justin Kan launched a new marketplace for blockchain game NFTs yesterday called Fractal.
Despite only being announced two weeks ago, Fractal's Discord group has amassed more than 111,000 members. At the time of writing, the most significant sale to date on the platform appears to be a Baby Scoot NFT selling for 4 Solana (SOL), worth around $680.
This Solana-based marketplace enables users to buy, trade, and hold NFTs used in blockchain games. In yesterday’s announcement, Twitch revealed its first blockchain games to partner with, including The Sandbox, Nyan Heroes, Caveworld, and Genopets, among others.
As part of the announcement, Kan called the 111,000-person Fractal community one of the “fastest growing” communities in crypto, adding:
"Persistent digital assets enabled through NFTs are the future of gaming. We're already partnering with some of the most innovative gaming companies on the Solana blockchain to power the future."
He added: “Players are excited about blockchain games, and we are excited about all the new experiences they will enable.”
In another blog post, Fractal also revealed that it will airdrop 100,000 Fractal NFTs to its members, saying that they may have governance rights over the market in the future and provide in-game benefits in the game.
"Fractal will bring benefits to our market and community. Mysterious and powerful, their full potential has yet to be discovered. Maybe in the future, they will give you special powers and abilities in your favorite blockchain games, or Opening the door to exciting new worlds waiting to be explored," the post reads.
Fractal also hinted that it will eventually expand support to other blockchains, which could be the next target given that The Sandbox metaverse project is built on the ethereum network.
Currently, users are able to connect Solana-friendly wallets, such as Phantom, and buy and sell any NFT from a Solana game item.
Wendy Huang, co-founder of Nyan Heroes in Australia, said in an interview with Cointelegraph that the strong team behind Fractal is the key reason why the company decided to cooperate with this platform.
She said: "Fractal's gaming-centric NFT marketplace has the potential to become a premier hub and aggregator for gamers and gaming communities. The strength of their founding team gives Nyan Heroes the confidence to grow into a Steam-like platform."
