In a somber turn of events, Cheems Balltze, the endearing Shiba Inu known for delighting the internet with images of his cheeseburger escapades, peacefully passed away on 18 August. The poignant circumstances of his passing were intertwined with a medical procedure known as thoracentesis, aimed at alleviating chest fluid accumulation.
Throughout his journey, Kathy, his devoted owner based in Hong Kong, meticulously chronicled Cheems' valiant battle against cancer, a diagnosis received earlier in the year. However, a heart-wrenching update on Instagram revealed that he had transcended while undergoing thoracentesis.
Endearingly referred to as "Ball Ball," the cherished canine had reached the age of 12 at the time of his departure.
His owner consoled Cheems’ followers on Instagram and told them “Ball Ball fell asleep on Friday morning during his last thoracentesis surgery. Originally, we wanted to arrange chemotherapy or other possible treatment for him after this operation, but it is too late now. Don’t be sad, please remember the joy that Balltze brought to the world. A Shiba Inu with a round smiling face connecting you and me, he has helped many people during the pandemic and brought a lot of joy to many of you, but now his mission has completed.”
The Shiba Inu breed, which Cheems exemplified, holds a unique prominence within the cryptocurrency realm.
This breed has become emblematic, capturing the attention of cryptocurrency enthusiasts due to its association with digital assets like Shiba Inu and Dogecoin. These tokens have garnered fervent support not only from retail investors but also from notable figures like Elon Musk.
Cheems Shot to Fame
In 2017, Balltze's internet stardom was ignited by an innocuous snapshot on Instagram – a single photo showing him sitting on the floor.
Distinct from Kabosu, the canine luminary central to the inception of the Dogecoin meme, another notable dog steps into the spotlight – Cheems. This enigmatic canine co-star finds its place within the narrative not only through its individual presence but also within the context of shared imagery featuring the iconic DOGE dog. One such instance is encapsulated in the famed meme "Swole Doge vs. Cheems," where the two characters engage in a visually captivating comparison. This peculiar meme showcases a remarkably robust humanoid figure, juxtaposed with the head of a distinct Shiba Inu breed, the iconic visage of Balltze himself taking on a more subdued appearance.
Catalysed by Balltze's surge in fame, a new chapter unfolded. Kathy, propelled by this newfound digital notoriety, seamlessly translated the meme's popularity into tangible offerings. Through a range of merchandise, prominently featuring the acclaimed meme, Kathy introduced a line of products that resonated with the meme's enthusiasts. Notably, the "100% Good Boi" T-shirt emerged as a standout piece in this collection.
The proceeds from the merchandise's sales, including the distinctive "100% Good Boi" T-shirt, were earmarked for a noble cause – the LAP Lifelong Animal Protection Charity, headquartered in Hong Kong.
Outpouring of Condolences as the Community Mourns
Within the realm of cryptocurrency enthusiasts, a collective sentiment of sympathy and solidarity resonated, particularly among the members of the Dogecoin Foundation. The news of Cheems' passing prompted a heartfelt outpouring of condolences, underscoring the deep connection that these digital aficionados cultivate with the beloved canine figures. Moreover, a resounding chorus of support surged forth, directed towards the enduring well-being of Kabosu.
