T-Mobile Deutsche Telekom MMS has partnered with decentralized data platform Subsquid to run dedicated worker nodes as part of Subsquid's decentralized "data lake."
The collaboration aims to improve the security and efficiency of blockchain data retrieval and transmission.
Worker nodes in the Subsquid network process data queries and retrieve requested information from the data lake for data consumers.
“For Deutsche Telekom, this collaboration fits in with our strategic vision of embracing decentralization and supporting the development of new decentralized business models,” said Alexander Ebeling, co-founder of Web3 Unit Deutsche Telekom MMS.
Collaboration and Data Processing
Subsquid co-founder Marcel Fohrmann noted that the partnership will help “strengthen and secure permissionless data access on Web3.”
The collaboration follows Deutsche Telekom’s recent decision to become a validator on Ethereum Layer 2 scaling platform Polygon, becoming one of the network’s 100 staking and validation providers.
Subsquid co-founder Dmitry Zhelezov discussed the data processing, explaining that each piece of data is “cryptographically verified” to ensure that “all relevant data is authentic.”
“Once [data] is added to the Subsquid network, each piece of data is replicated across dozens of nodes on the network, so even if one node goes offline, all the data remains available to consumers.”
Security Challenges
Discussing data security, Ebeling explained that “security remains the most important concern as enterprise-grade systems are a prime target for cyber threats.”
“[…] we implement rigorous security audits that meet the high standards within telecoms and maintain a 24/7 on-call team to ensure uptime of our blockchain infrastructure.”
Speaking on behalf of Subsquid, Zhelezov listed several challenges, including ensuring efficient data partitioning and implementing enterprise-grade security measures in the decentralized space.
Deutsche Telekom Bitcoin Mining Plans
Dirk Röder, head of Web3 infrastructure and solutions at Deutsche Telekom, recently stated at the BTC Prague event that the company has been running a Bitcoin node since 2023.
When contributor Joseph Hall asked Röder if he would elaborate on "digital currency photosynthesis" and whether the company would mine Bitcoin, Röder said, "We will."
