On 21 May 2024, McLaren Mercedes announced that it will race a special edition one-off car livery inspired by driver Ayrton Senna at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix.
"McLaren SENNA" will be jointly presented by OKX and Senna Global
The "McLaren SENNA presented by OKX" event is a collaboration between McLaren Racing and its official partners OKX and Senna Global to celebrate the racing legend of driver Senna. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Senna's death, this paint job is not only a tribute to him, but also a commemoration of his legendary life and the impact he had on McLaren and F1 racing. The livery is inspired by Senna’s iconic helmet, with bright yellow, green and blue colours, and will be worn on the MCL38 throughout the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
Senna was the team’s most successful driver from 1988 to 1993. He won 41 Grand Prix, 35 of which with McLaren, as well as three Drivers’ Championships and four Constructors’ Championships. Senna was closely associated with Monaco, and the ‘King of Monaco’ won six victories in the country, including five in a row between 1989 and 1993. Therefore, the symbolic Circuit de Monaco was the perfect choice for McLaren to honour Senna.
McLaren Automotive today also unveiled a limited edition McLaren Senna road car that pays homage to Senna’s legacy. Named ‘Senna Sempre’, the bespoke model incorporates design elements similar to and in harmony with the F1 livery. Designed and hand-painted by McLaren Special Operations, the livery is also inspired by Senna’s helmet, combining yellow, green and blue, while incorporating Senna’s dotted portrait and other references.
The McLaren team will also wear Senna-inspired team livery during the race, including drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who will both be seen in bespoke racing suits. Fans can also support the campaign and get involved by purchasing a range of bespoke merchandise featuring Senna-era colours and McLaren team livery. The ‘Senna x Monaco’ collection will be available in McLaren stores.
Since OKX, a leading virtual asset exchange and Web3 technology company, became the main partner of the McLaren F1 team, it has been supporting the team's global fan experience and is committed to providing fans with projects and innovative products that increase their sense of engagement. OKX will continue to work with the McLaren F1 team to bring more projects such as the limited edition "Stealth Mode" paint design launched at the Singapore Grand Prix or this special event in memory of Senna.
The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix will be held at the Monaco Circuit in Monte Carlo from May 24 to 26.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said: “The team is very proud to celebrate Senna’s extraordinary life and racing legacy with this livery. Senna is still regarded as the greatest icon in Formula 1 and McLaren’s most accomplished driver. His achievements, contributions to the team and his legend have had a profound impact on McLaren. Therefore, we are honored to race for him in his green, yellow and blue on the track where he achieved his greatest success.
“We are delighted to be working with Senna Global, Official Partner OKX and colleagues at McLaren Automotive have teamed up to create the ‘McLaren SENNA presented by OKX’ campaign. On the 30th anniversary of Senna’s death, the team has chosen to honour and remember his life in Monaco, one of his favourite and most successful races. We look forward to racing on track this weekend in this vibrant and beautiful livery.” Haider Rafique, Chief Marketing Officer at OKX, said: “Our involvement in the Senna livery for the Monaco Grand Prix is not only a tribute to Senna, but also to celebrate his brilliant legacy and the lasting impact he has left on the world of racing and McLaren. Senna inspired an entire generation and OKX hopes to make his legend more accessible to the younger generation. By participating in this campaign, OKX hopes to not only commemorate a legendary racing figure, but also join fans and participants in paying tribute to Senna in a vibrant and vital way, continuing his legacy and the impact it has had on F1 and beyond. ”
Bianca from SennaGlobalsaid:“We are honoured to be working with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive on these liveries in memory of Senna. Showcasing his iconic colours on race cars and sports cars is a great way to honour Senna’s life and legacy. McLaren meant a lot to Senna and together they achieved many great things, many of which are still remembered today. Monaco is also a circuit that has brought Senna many happy memories and championship victories, so to see a car with Senna’s livery racing on it is particularly meaningful.”
