OpenAI, finds itself in the midst of internal turmoil as more than 730 employees, making up 95% of the workforce, have signed an open letter threatening to depart unless significant changes are made.
The letter wrote:
"The process through which you terminated Sam Altman and removed Greg Brockman from the board has jeopardized all of this work and undermined our mission and company. Your conduct has made it clear you did not have the competence to oversee OpenAI."
The demands include the resignation of the current board and the reinstatement of former CEO Sam Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman.
The catalyst for this employee revolt was Altman's sudden dismissal by the board, coupled with accusations of incompetence against the current leadership.
Notably, even Ilya Sutskever, the company's chief scientist and a board member, signed the letter.
The letter garnered support from 738 out of OpenAI's approximately 770 employees by 5:10PM ET on Monday.
