According to PANews, Apple has decided to abandon its 10-year electric vehicle manufacturing plan. Insiders revealed that the news was disclosed internally on Tuesday, surprising nearly 2,000 employees involved in the project. It is reported that Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Vice President Kevin Lynch, who were responsible for the project, made the decision together. The two informed employees that the project would begin to gradually scale down, and many members of the vehicle manufacturing team would be transferred to the artificial intelligence department led by executive John Giannandrea. These employees will focus on generative artificial intelligence projects, which are becoming increasingly important priorities for the company.
Meanwhile, the Apple car team still has hundreds of hardware engineers and car designers who may also apply for jobs in other teams. The company will lay off employees, but the number of layoffs is currently unclear.
