According to Bloomberg, Chicago Bears officials and the city's Mayor have proposed a new stadium project estimated to cost around $3.2 billion. The proposed stadium will feature a translucent roof and large windows that offer views of the Chicago skyline. The development plan also includes over a dozen acres of green space, athletic fields, public parks, and phased infrastructure improvements to the lakefront campus.
The Bears are expected to contribute $2 billion towards the project, with an additional $300 million loan from the National Football League and a $900 million debt sale. The Mayor praised the Bears' $2 billion commitment as one of the largest private investments in the city's history. He assured that the project would not result in new or increased taxes for Chicago residents.
"For any new development project at the lakefront, we required real private investment, real public use, and real economic participation for the entire city," the Mayor said. "Today's announcement delivers on all three."
The stadium's design will be handled by Manica Architecture, the same firm responsible for the design of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
