CNN Historic Video Revisited: Do You Remember Bitcoin's 6600% Surge in 2013?

A historical video report on Bitcoin mining by CNN from 2013 has been reshared on the Twitter crypto community. In October 2013, Bitcoin's price was just $204, and skeptics were in the majority. Now, with the U.S. and Hong Kong approving Bitcoin spot ETFs, its price has soared above $60,000.

Historic Vids shared the CNN segment on Twitter with the caption: "How I earned money through Bitcoin mining in 2013."

In less than a day, the video garnered over 1.5 million views.

In the video, a Bitcoin miner explains how he profits by running computers 24/7 to support the Bitcoin system.

He says, "Bitcoin is essentially a decentralized cryptocurrency, a virtual form of money. It is controlled by software algorithms and released in limited quantities into the economy. The algorithm determines that about 25 Bitcoins are discovered every 10 minutes. Miners contribute their computing power to the overall network."

"Regardless of your computer's output percentage, you have a chance to earn rewards. I started mining in 2011, investing about $800 to build the computer. I was likely mining one Bitcoin per day. All you do is download the software, run it 24/7, solve digital problems, and send the results back to the server."

"The computer fans can be annoying, but I know it's the sound of money. Aside from keeping the computer running 24/7, you don't have to be a programmer or cryptographer."

"So far, I've mostly reinvested my Bitcoin earnings in new hardware. My machines are essentially running, and the next iteration will feature quieter computers and generate more profits."

"If you think mining is not a feasible way to earn Bitcoin, you might start trading, but that's much riskier."

Visionary Void, an engineer, responded to the tweet with two video clips. The first video shows a man calling the market to buy Bitcoin in 2013.

In another, a man captures the reaction as Bitcoin surpassed $100 in 2013.

In percentage terms, 2013 was the strongest year in Bitcoin price history, with the cryptocurrency surging 6600%.

Starting at $13 early in the year, Bitcoin's price rose to nearly $250 in April before correcting down more than 50%. Prices consolidated for about six months until November and December when Bitcoin rallied again, reaching a peak of $1,100.

During the bull market that year, Bitcoin's market value exceeded $1 billion for the first time.

Looking back to October 2013, when Bitcoin was priced at just $204, few believed it would one day surpass $60,000. However, over the years, Bitcoin has proven its value and potential.

Now, in the blink of an eye, it's 2024. The U.S. has approved Bitcoin spot ETFs, and Hong Kong quickly followed suit, sending Bitcoin soaring to a record high of $73,776.
