Meme Coin Luce Inspired by Cathcolic Church's Anime-Style Mascot
Solana-based meme coin Luce (LUCE), inspired by the cartoon mascot for the Catholic Church's upcoming Holy Year, saw a significant price jump on Tuesday following its futures listing on Bybit.
Launched just three weeks ago, the token gained 13% in value less than two days ago, reaching a price of over $0.23.
It is now available for trading with up to 12.5x leverage in Bybit's "Innovation Zone," a section for high-risk, high-volatility coins that carry higher fees.
Named after the Italian word for "light," Luce is the mascot for the Church's 2025 Jubilee, a special Holy Year offering the potential remission of sins for Roman Catholics under certain conditions.
Unveiled on 28 October, the character features bright blue hair, a yellow raincoat, and an orange cross necklace, aimed at engaging younger audiences.
Luce Meteoric Rise Amidst Bybit's Futures Listing
Within hours of its unveiling, Luce quickly transitioned from the podium to the crypto world, with its unofficial meme coin counterpart, LUCE, launched on Pump.fun.
The coin immediately gained traction among crypto enthusiasts, partly due to its resemblance to Milady Maker, a popular NFT collection with a cult-like following.
In just two days, LUCE surged to a market cap of over $80 million, generating significant profits for early investors.
This rapid rise and high trading volumes—exceeding $100 million in the past 24 hours—likely contributed to its subsequent listing on Bybit's perpetual contracts.
Additionally, Bybit announced that Luce would be included in its ByVotes campaign, where holders can deposit tokens to vote for its potential listing on Bybit's Spot Adventure Zone.
From 20 to 22 November, LUCE holders can participate in the voting process for a chance to share in a pool of over 1 million LUCE, valued at approximately $250,000.
At just 22 days old, Luce has already reached the ninth-largest market cap among Solana tokens created on Pump.fun, with a 36.36% increase over the past week, though it is trading at $0.1859, down 15.82% in the last 24 hours at the time of writing, according to CoinMarketCap.
