Cryptocurrency Thefts Surpass $1.2 Billion in 2024 Amid Rising Concerns

According to Odaily, following the latest hacking incident in August, cryptocurrency hackers have stolen over $1.2 billion, heightening concerns about the widespread adoption of digital currencies. So far in 2024, the crypto industry has experienced 154 hacking and theft incidents, resulting in a loss of $1.21 billion in digital assets. This figure represents a 15.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when losses slightly exceeded $1 billion, according to a report by Immunefi. Mitchell Amador, founder and CEO of Immunefi, expressed concern over this troubling trend, suggesting that the amount stolen by hackers in 2023 could be surpassed this year. He stated, 'It is difficult to make predictions, but the ecosystem is always at risk of a severe and successful attack, which could significantly increase these numbers. We must remain vigilant to mitigate such risks.' In August, hackers stole over $15 million worth of cryptocurrency, a significant decrease of 94% compared to the $274 million stolen in July.
