Odaily Planet Daily News US Congressmen Gus Bilirakis and Jan Schakowsky sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, asking about its App Store guidelines and whether they are stifling emerging technologies such as distributed ledger technology and NFT.
Two U.S. lawmakers pointed out that Apple appears to be using its App Store guidelines to profit from encrypted apps while making them less useful by forcing "lite" versions. They cite Axie Infinity's experience in the App Store as an example.
Lawmakers expressed concern that Apple's policies could harm U.S. leadership in emerging technologies. Chairman and ranking member of the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee said, "It is critical that Congress fully understand the App Store guidelines and the extent to which they limit innovation and impact America's technological leadership. Our subcommittee remains committed to promoting Full transparency and ensuring that Big Tech is held accountable for monopolistic practices. We want to level the playing field within the industry so American creativity can continue to thrive." (The Block)
