Star Atlas CEO: The company will focus on making low-cost game projects, and plans to launch a new version of the Sage online browser within three weeks
27/07/2023 10:33
Odaily Planet Daily News Michael Wagner, CEO of Solana-based chain game Star Atlas, outlined the company's new vision in the community, including focusing on game projects with lower production costs. He said he hopes to launch a new version of Sage's online browser game in about three weeks. Wagner hopes to reverse the fortunes of Star Atlas through the launch of Sage and mobile games. Wagner said: "To me, this mobile app is a great opportunity to expand the user base; from the company's perspective, it actually provides an opportunity to generate income from a new asset class." (The Block) Earlier news, Star Atlas development studio Automata (ATMTA) revealed that in response to the challenging market environment, it will undergo a major restructuring of its business. Michael Wagner, the company's chief executive, said, "ATMTA is undergoing significant staff reductions to maintain its ability to develop Star Atlas long-term, prioritizing our SAGE and mobile products, which are likely to show better results in a shorter period of time. , while extending the development time for our other products.” ATMTA, which lost about $15 million in the FTX debacle, a large portion of its liquid cash balance, decided to downsize its team and refocus on SAGE games and mobile applications. The remaining core team will consist of 45 people, compared to a peak of 235 at the end of 2022 and cut to 167 after the FTX event. Following the reorganization, ATMTA will operate with a leaner team, ensuring they have the necessary agility and focus to deliver their focus products and maintain their existing products. The move is also aimed at making the company more attractive to potential investors to expand product development when conditions permit.

GameStop Allows CEO to Invest in Other Companies with Its Cash
According to Yahoo News, GameStop Corp. has revealed an unconventional plan for its approximately $900 million in cash and equivalents, allowing its billionaire CEO, Ryan Cohen, to purchase stocks of other companies. The new policy, which was buried in the earnings filing, enables Cohen to invest in equities instead of short-term loans, catching some Wall Street analysts by surprise. Wedbush's Michael Pachter, a vocal skeptic of GameStop, called the move "one of the most inane moves we have ever seen," while Vital Knowledge's Adam Crisafulli noted that the update was "receiving a lot of attention." This shift to investing in other industries and companies is unusual, as most of Corporate America places its excess cash in safe short-term government bonds, which currently yield more than 5%. This move raises the bar for Cohen to outperform the market amid economic uncertainty and following a 19% rally for the benchmark S&P 500 so far in 2023. The new investment policy allows Cohen to deploy capital to both public and private markets, potentially mirroring his personal holdings, according to the filing. The mandate extends beyond just stocks, with the board permitting investments in "equity securities, among other investments." GameStop is not concerned about potentially backing the same companies Cohen holds, as it "places the personal resources of Mr. Cohen at risk in substantially the same manner." However, Pachter believes this is a sign that investors should continue to avoid GameStop, rating the stock as underperform and expecting shares to lose more than half their value in the next year.

Singapore's GIC in Talks to Invest in Apollo's Atlas SP Partners
According to Yahoo News, Singaporean sovereign-wealth fund GIC is in discussions to invest in Atlas SP Partners, the securitization business acquired by Apollo Global Management Inc. from Credit Suisse Group AG. The terms of the agreement, including the size of GIC's planned investment in the platform, remain undisclosed. Representatives for Apollo and Atlas SP declined to comment, and a GIC representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A potential capital injection from GIC would follow Apollo's efforts to raise capital to expand Atlas SP's balance sheet to over $50 billion from around $40 billion in February. The platform bundles debt, such as car loans and mortgages, into bonds that it sells and requires funding to temporarily finance assets that are packaged into securities. In June, Apollo announced that the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority provided a cornerstone capital commitment to Atlas SP and that it had 'substantial additional capital raising underway.' Atlas SP, led by CEO Jay Kim, has been active in recent months. In October, the firm was part of an investor group that agreed to provide a $1.1 billion delayed-draw mortgage facility to open-air shopping center landlord Site Centers Corp. Atlas SP also led a $200 million warehouse facility for Above Lending, which specializes in consumer installment loans, and separately led a securitization for equipment-financing company Equify Financial.
