Horizen announced that the community recently approved ZenIP 42204 to deprecate the Horizen main chain shielded pool. After deprecation, all privacy features will be removed from the Horizen main chain at the consensus level. After this change, ZEN will no longer be a privacy coin. Horizen stated that the purpose of the deprecation is to ensure that Horizen uses privacy technology in a correct and sustainable manner to mitigate regulatory threats. Horizen said the current regulatory environment poses challenges to the accessibility and adoption of privacy cryptocurrencies. The deprecation of the Horizen main chain shielded pool will be implemented as part of the upcoming ZEN 4.1 mandatory software upgrade, testnet will be deprecated in August and mainnet will be deprecated in September.
