Odaily Planet Daily News Although Bittrex’s U.S. and Malta subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy protection in May this year, Bittrex may still have excess funds due to a large number of customers who have not requested withdrawals.
Bittrex attorney Patty Tomasco said in a Delaware court on Wednesday that fewer than 36,000 customers had withdrawn approximately $143 million worth of cryptocurrency as the deadline for filing claims passed.
In May of this year, after Bittrex’s U.S. and Malta subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy, 1.6 million customers received emails asking them to withdraw money, but only a small fraction of them actually made withdrawals.
Additionally, the U.S. Secret Service is one of the exchange’s largest users, with $6.2 million in assets held in its account. Bittrex has partnered with the institution to help them successfully withdraw funds. (CoinDesk)
