Odaily Planet Daily News Developer Super Testnet stated that BitVM is focused on Bitcoin expansion rather than launching DeFi applications similar to Ethereum on the network.
BitVM’s white paper was released on October 10 by Robin Linus, project leader of ZeroSync, and is technically supported by Super Testnet, which implements BitVM’s first proof-of-concept and works to expand BitVM’s functionality. However, after the release of the white paper, some industry experts believe that BitVM will introduce DeFi to Bitcoin, similar to the role of EVM in Ethereum.
Super Testnet stated in this regard that BitVM is focused on expansion, rather than deploying smart contracts and issuing large amounts of altcoins (although BitVM may reduce the demand for altcoins). The real killer application is to expand Bitcoin. He doesn’t want BitVM to be flooded with EVM-like tokens, as that would introduce bad actors to Bitcoin.
He added that building a decentralized trading platform on Bitcoin would be a "retrograde"; in addition, BitVM's expected payment infrastructure will improve one of the shortcomings of the Lightning Network - payment reliability, and is expected to reach Lightning Network 60 % transaction speed. Previously, Robin Linus, co-founder of blockchain developer ZeroSync, released a BitVM white paper, which aims to enhance the functionality of Bitcoin smart contracts without the need for a soft fork upgrade to the network consensus rules.
