Odaily Planet Daily News Bahamas central bank executives recently predicted that by the end of 2024, 50% of Bahamians will have active Sand Dollar accounts, and 160,000 of them are already using the country’s central bank digital currency.
Brett Lashley, deputy manager of customer experience at the Central Bank of the Bahamas, said at the D3 Digital Assets Conference that more than 35% of Bahamian adults currently use central bank-backed CBDC. “More than 35% of the adult population is already using it. We have a relatively small population of around 400,000. Already there are 150,000 to 160,000 wallets activated, which shows we are well on our way; by next year the goal is to have close to 50% use ." (The Tribune)
