According to Cointelegraph: OpenAI, in a surprise reshuffling, named 34-year-old Mira Murati as their interim CEO following the sudden dismissal of co-founder Sam Altman on November 17. The change has stirred the tech world and unleashed a wave of criticism from both key clients and investors of the startup. According to Bloomberg, efforts are underway to reinstate Altman involving Microsoft, OpenAI's largest shareholder.

Murati joined OpenAI in 2018 when it was a non-profit research center, shortly before it transitioned into the enterprise behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT. With an early career marked by a stint as an analyst at Goldman Sachs followed by engineering roles at Zodiac Aerospace and Tesla, Murati established her credentials as a seasoned tech leader. Later, she served as vice president of product and engineering at Ultraleap in 2016.
At OpenAI, Murati steadily climbed the corporate ladder, serving as Vice President of Applied AI and Partnerships, then as Senior Vice President of Research Products, and Partnerships, eventually assuming the CTO role in 2022.
Born in Albania, Murati earned her degree at Dartmouth College, an Ivy League institution in 2012. As per the Wall Street Journal, she is a true "product person" with a vision that transcends the typical confines of AI development.
Murati advocates for diverse perspectives, inclusive of philosophers, social scientists, artists, and humanities scholars in AI conversations. According to her, regulators too should play a part in shaping AI discussions and decisions. A strong believer in bringing AI into the public consciousness in a controlled, responsible manner, she has been instrumental in managing groundbreaking OpenAI projects such as DALL-3 and Whisper, and the chatbot GPT-4.
Her posts on her X (previously Twitter) account predominantly spotlight product developments at OpenAI, although she has stayed silent on public platforms since the recent leadership shakeup at OpenAI. Her last post dated November 6 unveiled the release of ChatGPT Turbo. Intriguously, her LinkedIn account has been deactivated.
