At the Fortune Global Forum in Abu Dhabi, Franklin Templeton President and CEO Jenny Johnson discussed the company’s exploration of blockchain technology and its application for a Bitcoin ETF.
Johnson emphasized the importance of distinguishing between Bitcoin and blockchain, noting that blockchain technology will more democratize private markets, reduce transaction costs, and make difficult-to-handle assets easier to divide and transfer ownership. She also mentioned that the company’s development of a tokenized money market fund demonstrates their confidence in this space.
Johnson said she believes spot ETFs are a better way to acquire Bitcoin. Additionally, she disclosed her small investment in cryptocurrencies and looked ahead to other blockchain or cryptocurrency-related products that the company may launch.
