According to Decrypt, Pudgy Penguins, the Ethereum NFT profile picture collection launched in July 2021, has revealed a trailer for its 3D browser game experience, Pudgy World, at Art Basel in Miami. The game is set to launch in alpha in 2024. After a change in leadership and the appointment of an executive advisory board, Pudgy Penguins raised $9 million in funding and expanded its presence in the U.S. market. Pudgy World will be free-to-play, allowing Pudgy Penguin NFT holders and plush toy owners to adopt a virtual likeness of their collectibles as a 3D character in the game. The game will also offer customizable traits for characters and a story-driven journey.
Pudgy World will use Matter Labs' Ethereum layer-2 scaling protocol zkSync, which provides zero-knowledge blockchain technology. Zero-knowledge proofs are known for their user privacy benefits compared to traditional blockchain transactions on public networks like Ethereum. Although specific details on how Pudgy World will utilize zkSync have not been disclosed, Matter Labs SVP of Growth Michael Lee stated that the company's ZK technology will 'unlock new business models and gaming experiences' for players.
