The lawyer responsible for defending SBF in the criminal trial admitted that the case was "almost impossible" to win from the beginning. David Mills, a professor at Stanford Law School, said in an interview that SBF repeatedly deviated from his lawyering strategy, including how to handle tough questions from prosecutors during cross-examination. Mills added: "He was probably the worst cross-examiner I've ever seen."
He believes that if SBF had performed better, the jury would not have found him guilty of stealing billions from FTX clients—and the jury found him guilty within hours. Mills said the judge's pretrial ruling and strong testimony from prosecution witnesses made it nearly impossible for the defense to win. "I think it's almost impossible to win a lawsuit when three or four founders say you did this," he said. (Bloomberg)
