Russian tax authorities will begin collecting taxes in digital rubles from 2025, and banks have been given the power to block "suspicious" CBDC transactions.
According to Klerk, the latest tax law amendment signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of last year stated that the Russian tax authorities will "shift to digital ruble taxation starting in 2025." The outlet added that the Finance Ministry wants to “start paying pensions and other social benefits in digital rubles.” As part of the expanded pilot, government agencies pledged to be more proactive in adopting the digital ruble in 2024.
