The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) charged Jeffrey Menge, chief business officer, and Eric Drabert, director of IT, of the Patterson Unified School District in California for allegedly running a cryptocurrency mining business in 10 schools in the district, but did not disclose the specific currencies they mined.
They purchased high-end graphics cards and used those, along with other district property and electricity, to operate a district-wide cryptocurrency mining farm. The pair transferred all the cryptocurrencies mined to their own crypto wallets.
The two men are also suspected of other fraudulent activities, with Menge embezzling a total of $1 million to $1.5 million and Drabert stealing $250,000 to $300,000. (Cointelegraph)
