Ladan Stewart, the head of the U.S. SEC’s encryption division, has left the agency and joined law firm White & Case as a partner in its white-collar defense team. She said in an interview that she plans to launch a cryptocurrency and cyber defense practice at the law firm. Stewart has spent eight years with the SEC’s Enforcement Division and has led the agency’s Cryptocurrency and Cyber ​​Litigation Unit since September 2022. In that role, she led a lawsuit last June against Coinbase Global Inc., alleging it operated as an unregistered securities exchange, broker-dealer and clearing agency.
