Nonprofit organization FLI disclosed that it received a $665 million SHIB donation from Vitalik in May 2021

The Future of Life Institute (FLI), a non-profit organization, disclosed in a little-known EU transparency document submitted in 2023 that in May 2021, it received Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin Donated Shiba Inu (SHIB) worth $665 million. "Much of the money has been transferred to donor-advised funds and other nonprofits that primarily provide asset management services. This is a common setup for nonprofits managing large amounts of resources," said Ben Cumming, a spokesman for FLI. Vitalik declined to comment. In a blog post last November, he worried that artificial intelligence could become "Earth's new apex species" and could "end humanity forever." It is reported that FLI, which calls on governments to require licensing and other safety rules for artificial intelligence development, may use part of Vitalik’s donation to build its direct lobbying campaign in Washington.
