Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried filed an appeal on Thursday after being found guilty of seven criminal charges. The former executive filed a notice of appeal with Judge Lewis Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. According to court documents, the appeal concerns his conviction and sentence.
SBF was sentenced to nearly 25 years in prison on March 28 and ordered to repay up to $11 billion in investor and creditor losses. At sentencing, Kaplan asserted that SBF perjured himself at trial and said he knew his actions were wrong.
SBF told the court during his sentencing that he made a "selfish decision," while adding that customers' funds were lost in a "liquidity crisis" caused by FTX employees' mismanagement of user accounts and the company's broader operations.
