The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Wednesday that Yaroslav Vasinskyi, a Ukrainian citizen associated with the REvil ransomware group, also known as Rabotnik, was sentenced to 13 years and 7 months in prison for participating in more than 2,500 ransomware attacks and demanding more than $700 million in ransoms. In addition, Rabotnik was ordered to pay more than $16 million in restitution.
Previously, Rabotnik was extradited from Poland to the United States and pleaded guilty to 11 charges including "conspiracy to commit fraud and other computer-related activities, damage to protected computers, and conspiracy to launder money." (CoinDesk)
