Former President Donald Trump has recently welcomed cryptocurrencies after a long history of skepticism, a shift that could win him votes from some reluctant Republicans, according to a poll conducted by Paradigm.
Thirteen percent of people who were not originally planning to vote for Trump have a more positive view of him because of his stance on cryptocurrencies, according to data compiled by polling firm Echelon Insights. Meanwhile, a majority of respondents (60%) believe Congress needs to enact regulations for cryptocurrency businesses, and Republicans generally dislike the way the current financial system works.
The poll of more than 1,000 likely Republican voters was conducted in mid-June, well before the televised debates. Trump easily won the party's nomination in this year's primaries, and the Republican National Convention is about to convene next week to officially announce the matter.
The survey also found that more than a quarter of Republicans surveyed have dabbled in cryptocurrencies. Overall, voter polls this year show mixed impressions of cryptocurrencies, with slightly more Republicans having a positive impression of cryptocurrencies than a negative one (36% to 30%). (CoinDesk)
