Andrew Chen, general partner of a16z, discussed the commercial potential of ChatGPT on the X platform. Chen pointed out that OpenAI has more than 200 million users per week in just a few years. Has anyone analyzed the average number of searches and single impression revenue of ChatGPT, and how a business like ChatGPT might perform if it adopts an advertising monetization model similar to Google? Chen believes that if ChatGPT is free to use, its monthly active users may increase significantly, and large language model (LLM) products can be regarded as disruptors of the search business and may achieve considerable monetization capabilities. It is worth thinking about whether LLM will increase the overall search volume or just grab market share from existing search engines such as Google.
