Kraken has requested a jury trial in its lawsuit against the US SEC

Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has requested a jury trial in a case brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), according to a court filing on Thursday. A California judge ruled last month that the SEC's lawsuit against Kraken will proceed to trial. The ruling follows similar decisions in cases brought by the agency against Binance and Coinbase (COIN), which also face charges of violating federal securities laws by failing to register with the SEC as a broker, clearinghouse or exchange. The SEC sued Kraken in the Northern District of California last November, asking the court to permanently injunct the exchange from further securities violations, disgorgement of its "ill-gotten gains" and other civil penalties. The regulator listed ADA, ALGO, ATOM, FIL, FLOW, ICP, MANA, MATIC, NEAR, OMG and SOL tokens as 11 unregistered securities. In Thursday's court filing, Kraken reiterated its denials that it engaged in illegal conduct, responded to every allegation in the SEC's lawsuit, and offered 18 other defenses. (CoinDesk)
