Oracle co-founder and Elon Musk invited Nvidia CEO to dinner and "begged" for more GPUs

At an analyst conference last week, billionaire Oracle co-founder and CTO Larry Ellison told the audience that he and Elon Musk had invited Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to dinner at Nob Palo Alto and "begged" Huang to give them more GPUs. "I can describe that dinner as 'Elon and I begged Jensen (Huang Renxun) for GPUs,'" Ellison recalled. "Please take our money, and by the way, I'm ready for dinner. No, no, take some more. We need you to take more of our money." The results were positive, Ellison said, "Everything went well. I mean, it worked." Oracle has invested heavily in GPU technology, especially for AI applications. The tech giant announced its first-quarter results for fiscal 2025 this month, revealing that revenue increased 7% year-on-year to $13.3 billion. Profits were $2.9 billion. Oracle also disclosed that it has 162 cloud data centers in operation or under construction around the world, the largest of which is 800 megawatts and will house "acres of Nvidia GPU clusters" for training large-scale AI models. In the first quarter, Oracle signed another 42 cloud GPU contracts totaling $3 billion. Similarly, Tesla relies on Nvidia GPUs to power supercomputers to train the neural networks for its autonomous and assisted driving technologies. (Fortune)
