Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev revealed at a meeting of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Public Committee on Wednesday that cybercrime in Russia has cost more than $1.25 billion since the beginning of the year. He explained that both individuals and organizations, including government agencies, are often victims of digital crimes. He stressed that these crimes pose a growing threat to the country's economy and citizens' property rights.
"Over the past five years, the number of violations in cyberspace has more than doubled. Today, their share of the total is still large, about 40%. That is, for every two crimes, this figure has reached 60% for serious and particularly serious crimes. This causes significant damage to the economy and citizens' property rights. The total amount of losses since the beginning of this year alone exceeds 116 billion rubles."
In response to this rising trend, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been working to strengthen its IT crime department, TASS quoted Kolokoltsev as saying. Kolokoltsev pointed to efforts in education, with nearly 1,000 students now taking computer and information security courses and more than 750 ministry employees having upgraded their qualifications. Kolokoltsev said the initiatives are working. (Bitcoin.com)
