Theta Labs CEO: The next wave of AI will be mobile

The CEO of Theta Labs, the parent company of the decentralized video network Theta Network, expressed his opinion that AI's demand for resources is endless. It consumes a lot of electricity and data, with an estimated 460 terawatt hours (TWh) used in 2022, and is expected to increase significantly to between 620 and 1050 TWh by 2026. However, what AI craves most is computing power: processing power to support complex model training, analyze massive data sets, and perform large-scale reasoning. Smartphones and tablets represent a huge, almost untapped resource of global computing power. In 2024 alone, 1.21 billion devices are expected to be shipped, and the true potential of the idle computing power of these devices is difficult to estimate. Blockchain is a perfect fit for this distributed AI ecosystem. Its decentralized nature fits seamlessly with the goal of utilizing the idle computing power of millions of devices around the world. By leveraging blockchain technology, a secure, transparent, and incentivized framework can be created to share computing resources. The future of AI innovation lies not in building larger data centers, but in leveraging the power that already exists in pockets and homes. By shifting the focus to edge computing, a more inclusive, efficient, and innovative AI ecosystem can be born.
