Christine Kim, vice president of research at Galaxy, summarized the 198th Ethereum Core Developers Executive (ACDE) call, where developers shared their progress in launching Pectra Devnet 4. They also discussed the possible inclusion of two new EIPs in Pectra, EIP 7782 and 7783. The former proposes to reduce slot time from 12 seconds to 8 seconds, while the other proposes a new mechanism to increase the block gas limit. Both are aimed at improving Ethereum's scalability, and developers have not yet made a decision on whether to include them in Pectra or future upgrades.
The deadline for submitting audit proposals for the Pectra system contracts is October 11, and accepted proposals will be confirmed no later than October 22. Developers have not yet released Pectra Devnet 4 and discussed public issues related to its release, including the decision to include the EIP6110 update in Devnet4.
Barnabas Busa, developer operations engineer at the Ethereum Foundation, shared a quick status update on Pectra Devnet 3. The developers stopped finalizing due to issues with the Geth client. Busa said his team is deploying a new version of Geth to re-stabilize the network.
The developers agreed to try to launch Pectra Devnet 4 before the ACDC meeting next Thursday (October 17, 2024), and also agreed to schedule a separate breakout meeting after the test call on Monday, October 14, 2024 to further discuss the topic of BLS precompile repricing.
The developers plan to launch a public Pectra testnet before Devcon, the annual Ethereum developer conference, and are considering the name of the testnet. Some naming suggestions that community members have already made include MooDeng and Khlong.
