The airdrop frenzy for Ethereum L2 network Scroll has pushed Ethereum blob fees to $4.52, a nearly 4-month high. Notably, as L2 activity slowed, the price of blob fees quickly fell back, stabilizing at a near-zero cost at the time of publication. Blob fees have only risen sharply twice before - once during a surge in L2 activity in July, and again on March 27 during the launch of Blobscriptions, a protocol that allows users to inscribe data directly onto blobs. Analysis points out that increased blob fees are a double-edged sword for Ethereum. More expensive blobs result in more blob gas being paid to the network; however, they also drive up the cost of executing transactions and transfers on Ethereum L2. (Cointelegraph)
