According to U.Today, the XRP community has been alerted by Wietse Wind, a notable XRPL developer, about a fraudulent token named 'Xaman.' Wind clarified that there is no official Xaman token and there will never be one. He emphasized that his team is not involved in issuing any meme coins and warned users to avoid engaging with the fake token. Wind's tweet highlighted the seriousness of the situation, describing the Xaman token as a 'fake meme scam coin.' He urged the community to stay vigilant and verify information through official channels to protect themselves from potential scams.
The warning comes as the XRP ecosystem continues to grow, with new tokens emerging on the XRP Ledger. This month, First Ledger, a new platform for trading and tracking tokens on XRPL, reported a record number of newly issued tokens per day, surpassing the previous peak in 2021. The increase in new tokens underscores the importance of caution and due diligence within the community.
In addition to Wind's warning, XRPL dUNL validator and xrpcafe cofounder Vet also cautioned the XRP community about impersonators. Vet stated that he would never release a meme coin or send direct messages, urging users to remain vigilant. Impersonation scams are not new in the crypto space, and the official Xaman Wallet account has previously warned about scams pretending to be Xumm Support or NFT minting support, aiming to extract personal information from victims for malicious purposes.
The XRP community is advised to stay alert and verify any information through official channels to avoid falling victim to scams. As the number of new tokens on the XRP Ledger continues to rise, the need for vigilance and caution remains critical.
